ToggleThe Uses and Abuses of Television
When Baird invented the television it is unlikely that he had imagined the scope of its use. The fascination of the small screen knows no bars of race, sex, caste or creed. Television has gained such heights of popularity that for a very large number of people it has become an essential part of their lives.
As a medium of entertainment the television has a very important position. Its prime advantage is that it brings entertainment to our drawing rooms and bedrooms. We can enjoy what it has to offer in the comfort and security of our own homes. Television has almost unlimited value as a medium of mass education. It brings into our homes events that are taking place or have taken place all around the globe.
Nowadays many people all over the world spent most of their free time watching television; but since its appearance, television has brought to man many advantages as well as disadvantages.
First, television plays an important role in our daily activities: it keeps us informed of all current affairs in the world. Events through television are more vivid than those through books and magazines.
Second, television helps us enrich our spiritual lives. Our knowledge is broadened in many ways. Through language teaching programs, we can learn the language we like such as: English, French, German, Chinese, Japanese and so on. We can become skilful and clever at doing jobs, making cakes or arranging flowers through practical courses taught on television.
Finally, television is a source of recreation. Humorous stories and funny films bring us minutes of relaxation after a hard day’s work. For me, sitting comfortably in an arm-chair to watch an international football match on television is more interesting than having to queue for tickets at a crowded stadium.
Apart from its advantages, however, television also brings lots of disadvantages to viewers too.
First, television viewers gradually become passive in their action. Television may be a splendid media of communication, but it prevents us from communicating with each other or with the outer world. The world seen through television is only the restricted one: It separates us from the real world.
Second, television, with its fascinating power, makes people of all ages sink into oblivion: whole generations are growing up addicted to the telly. Pupils and students are so absorbed in television that they neglect their school activities. Food is left uneaten, homework undone and lessons unprepared. Housewives are so keen on watching television that they neglect their duties toward their husbands and their children. Instead of watching television, we may use the time for a real family hour. Without the distraction of television, we may sit around together after dinner and actually talk to one another to know and like each other better.
Finally, the evil influence of television on the young generation is inevitable; it encourages them to commit crimes. Spectacles of sadism and violence on television lead them to robbery, theft, rape and murder.
Medicine must be administered in prescribed doses. Too much of it may prove extremely harmful. In the same way television too must be used in a sensible manner. We must always be in total control over it. We must not allow it to control us. We should learn to be selective and to watch only those programs that are suitable and those that do not interfere with our daily lives.

Tree Plantation
Tree plantation is a vital activity that plays a crucial role in preserving our environment, combating climate change, and creating a sustainable future. It is an act of responsibility and commitment towards the well-being of our planet and the generations to come.
One of the primary reasons for tree plantation is to combat deforestation and its adverse effects. Deforestation, driven by human activities such as logging, agriculture, and urbanization, has resulted in the loss of vital forest ecosystems and the depletion of biodiversity. By planting trees, we contribute to the restoration and preservation of forests, ensuring habitat conservation for numerous species of plants and animals. Trees act as carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen, mitigating the impacts of greenhouse gases and combating climate change.
Tree plantation also helps in regulating the water cycle and preventing soil erosion. The roots of trees hold the soil together, reducing the risk of landslides and erosion caused by heavy rainfall. They act as natural filters, absorbing pollutants and preventing them from contaminating water sources. Moreover, trees contribute to groundwater recharge, maintaining the water table and ensuring a sustainable water supply for human and animal populations.
Furthermore, trees provide numerous economic benefits. They serve as a valuable source of timber for construction, furniture, and paper industries. Agroforestry, the practice of integrating trees with agriculture, enhances soil fertility, increases crop yields, and provides additional income streams for farmers. Trees also offer shade and reduce energy consumption by providing natural cooling, which is especially crucial in urban areas.
Another significant aspect of tree plantation is its contribution to the aesthetic value of our surroundings. Trees enhance the beauty of landscapes, parks, and gardens, creating a sense of tranquility and harmony. They provide shade during hot summer months, creating a comfortable environment for outdoor activities. Additionally, trees in urban areas help mitigate the “heat island” effect, where cities experience higher temperatures due to concrete and asphalt surfaces, leading to improved quality of life for city dwellers.
Tree plantation is a collective effort that requires the participation of individuals, communities, and governments. Schools, colleges, and organizations can organize tree-planting campaigns to raise awareness and actively involve the younger generation in environmental conservation. Governments can implement policies to protect forests, incentivize afforestation programs, and support sustainable land management practices.
In conclusion, tree plantation is a critical step towards nurturing a greener future. By planting trees, we contribute to biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, water regulation, soil protection, and economic development. It is an act of responsibility and a commitment to preserving our environment for future generations. Let us join hands and plant trees, for they are the pillars of a sustainable and thriving planet.
Population Problem of Bangladesh
Population problem, like energy crisis, is one of the most talked of topics of the world these days. It is the burning question of Bangladesh. Now the world has a population of about five hundred crores. The population of the world is increasing day by day. It is creating many problems.
Population of Bangladesh: Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world. It is small country of 55598 square miles. But it has a population over. 120 million people are being added to our population. The problem is now out of control.
When it becomes a problem: Though the population of a country is an asset, it becomes a problem when the country cannot afford to give people the basic necessaries of life like food, clothing, education, medicine and shelter etc.
There are many causes of rapid growth of population. Nowadays owing to better explosion of medical facilities and improvements of standard of living the death rate has gone down much but on the other hand the birth rate is on the constant increase. The population of our country is increasing at an alarming rate.
Its effect: The area of Bangladesh is too small to support her vast population. As a result it creates the following problems.
Food problem: Population in Bangladesh is increasing by geometrical progression. But the agricultural production is increasing by arithmetical progression. The production of food cannot keep pace with our increasing people. So there is the shortage of food in our country. Every year a large quantity of food is to be imported from abroad.
Communication problem: It creates educational problem too. It is a herculean job to get admission in schools and colleges. For twenty seats, there may be two thousand candidates.
Unemployment: In the field of employment this condition is hazardous. For one single vacant post there will be thousand candidates. Thousands and thousands of people are out of work in the country.
Shelter problem: Health is wealth, but our people are suffering from many diseases. Many children of our country are blind because they do not get enough nutrition. Our children often suffer in diarrhoea.
Medical and medicine problem: The large number of population creates the treatment problems too. There is only one qualified doctor for every 25,000 village people on the average. They also do not get proper and sufficient medicine.
Environment pollution: The increasing people pollute our environment by making latrines on the bank of rivers and canals. Human waste pollutes our environment. The vast population also produces so much carbon dioxide which is dangerous to the environment.
Poverty: The increasing population of our country is creating pressure to our wealth. So day by day we become poor.
How to remove it: We should all come forward to control it. The government Of Bangladesh is trying to control it. To remove this problem we should follow the following arrangements.
Family planning: Each family must not have more than two children. Then each family will be planned. They should be made aware of the gravity of the problem.
Education of the masses: To check the growth of population, top-most importance should be attached to education of the masses. If the entire populations are educated, there would develop a sense of national awakening and wide outlook among them.
Stop early marriage: If we do not stop early marriage, the people of our country will be increasing at an alarming rate day by day.
Others: We can export man to other countries to remove the population crisis. To remove this problem .the lesson of self-reliance is particularly needed for us.
The population problem is a great malady for Bangladesh. But this can be solved if the government and the people are firmly determined to control birth rate and grow more food at the same time. No improvement is possible unless this problem is solved. Therefore, all the people of Bangladesh and the government should join hands to meet the crisis right at this moment before it is too late.

The Uses and Abuses of Television
Television is one of the wonders of modern science. Today we cannot even do a single day without the dependence of television. Television has influenced the every sector of our life. Now, it has become such kind of modern instrument that has made our life easy, comfortable, modern and meaningful.
It is a popular means of mass communication. It provides both sound and picture at the same time. It is a great source of entertainment. It has linked up the distant parts of the world. We cannot do a single day without it.
English scientist named John Bayard invented television in 1926. Then it was not so improved. But later, scientists have gradually developed it. Now it is very modern, cheap and easy to operate.
The importance of television beggars description. It is a great source of recreation. Millions of people all over the world watch television daily for entertainment, news and views, gathering knowledge, knowing information etc. Nowadays it is very popular with all classes of people. Children, boys, young, and old people are fond of watching television. We enjoy dramas, songs, and cultural programmes on television. Television removes our monotony of daily work. We can know and see what is happening in the world through television.
Television helps us in our studies. Sometimes, television is used in distance learning. In such a process, we can learn our lessons by staying home. We can also enjoy debate which is very important.
Television has made the world smaller. Television has conquered time and distance. Now we need not go to the stadium to enjoy the game. Before sitting television set, we can enjoy it. Even poor people enjoy the most exciting world cup football and cricket event on television. Besides, we get familiar with the customs and traditions of other countries through television. We can observe the social, political, cultural and economic situation of the world through television.
In spite of having a lot of merits, television has some demerits too. Students often waste valuable time before sitting television set. Even, they do not go to play to enjoy television programmes. As a result, they do not get a good health. Besides, some vulgar programmes telecast on television hamper the moral character of the younger.
In the end, it can be said that though television has some bad sides, it is a very powerful mass media. It gives us not only recreation but also conveys pictures of our sorrows and sufferings to the concerned authority.
The Uses and Abuses of Television

My Aim in Life Or, Choice of a Career Or, My Future Plan of Life
[Hints: Introduction, What I want to be and why, my plan and Preparation, how will I serve my country/Social work, Conclusion]
Every man should have an aim in life. An aim keeps a man steady in life. A proverb goes that a man without an aim is like a ship without a rudder. A ship without a rudder effaces danger. Similarly, a man without an aim cannot reach his goal. He stumbles in his way of life. So, every man should have a definite aim. But nothing is more difficult than the choice of a profession.
What I want to be and why: Different people have different aims. Some want to be doctors, some want to be engineers, others want to be teachers, and so on. But my aim in life is to be a doctor. My parents and teachers have given their consent to my choice. There are many reasons for choosing the profession of a doctor. The village people in our country are very poor. They suffer from various diseases but there is no qualified doctor to serve them. There are a few quacks but they cannot serve them properly. Rather, they extort money from simple folks. Many people meet an untimely death for lack of proper treatment. So, I have decided to serve the people of my village through this profession.
My plan and Preparation: Medical college takes only brighter students with good results in the S.S.0 and H.S.C. I am now appearing at the H.S.C. Examination. I have prepared well in all the subjects. I am sure to cut a good figure in the examination. After passing the H.S.C. with a brilliant result, I shall get myself admitted into a Medical College. After obtaining the M.B.B.S. degree. I shall go back to my native village and set myself to serve my village people through practice.
How will I serve my country/social work: After I have completed the MBBS course successfully? I will go back to my own village to serve the suffering people. I will charge a reasonable fee to my patients. I will not get any fees from the poor people. It is my determination to set up a charitable dispensary and distribute medicines to the poor free of cost. I also have a plan to set up a hospital with few beds for serious cases. I shall stop the practice of the quack.
Conclusion: The man who has confidence and a definite aim in life can surely succeed. Success in life depends much on the proper choice of a profession. I believe that I shall be able to reach my goal and serve the nation.
My Aim in Life
Introduction: All human beings have a specific aim in life. To be successful in life, we must have an aim. A man without an aim is like a ship without a rudder. A ship without a rudder is in danger. So it is vital that people set an aim or purpose at the very beginning of life. It is possible to achieve the desired aim in life if we move forward with hard work, dedication, perseverance, and concentration.
Different kinds of aims: Different people have different aims. Some want to be teachers, some want to be doctors; others want to be engineers, and so on. Every person needs to think right at the beginning of life and try to implement it by setting aims. Otherwise, the person will not find the right direction to manage his life. Life without aims seems pointless.
The right time to choose an aim: Student life is the right time to sow the seeds of future life. The seeds that people sow at this time will bloom and develop in the near future. That is why the aim of life has to be determined while a student. To achieve the goal, you need to work hard with dedication, perseverance, and concentration.
My aim in life: My aim in life is to be a doctor. My parents and teachers gave their consent to my choice. There are many reasons to choose the profession of a doctor. The rural people of our country are very poor. Although they suffer from various diseases, there is no qualified doctor to serve them. So through this profession, I decided to serve the people of my village.
The reason for choosing the aim: Medical services in our country have now become limited and expensive. The number of doctors is much less than the country’s large population. Rural farmers and common people now do not get good medical care. The business mentality is now embedded in many doctors. This situation needs to change. That is why I want to be a good doctor. So I have chosen such a goal as one of the ways to stand by these helpless people.
Ways to achieve the aim: I am currently a ten-class student. I am relying on Allah to achieve my desired goal. I will study well so that I can get a GPA of 5 and pass SSC and HSC. After passing HSC, I will be admitted to medical college. After five years in medical college. After completing the M.B.B.S degree, I will become a skilled doc and stand by the side of the poor and helpless people of this country. I will devote all the days of my working life to the service of the people.
Conclusion: Being a doctor is a great profession. It is a direct opportunity for human service. I will not take money from poor people. I also have plans to build a hospital with a few beds for the poor and helpless people. So I want to be a doctor considering everything. I believe I will be able to reach my goal and serve the nation.
My Childhood Memories
Introduction: memories of childhood mean some incidents of the past to be remembered. Childhood is the sweetest period of human life. As Wordsworth says, “Heaven lies about us in our infancy.” Man is fond of turning back and calling up the memories of his bygone days.
My Childhood: My childhood days were very colorful. They were full of a lot of memorable things and events. They still flash before the eyes of my mind and fill my heart with a world of joy and pleasure. As Richter says, ‘remembrance is the only paradise out of which we cannot be driven away.’ I was the youngest son of my parents. They loved me, loved me very dearly, and took every care to make me happy. A single drop of tears was enough to move them. In my childhood, they were my best guides, teachers, and friends. Hundreds of events crowd my memories and hunt me. Let me muse over some of the striking memories of my childhood below:
The Memory of Home: the memory of my childhood days mor e than often takes me back to our sweet home and reminds me of the wise saying, “home, home, sweet home; there is no place like home.” My feelings can be best expressed in the words of the poet,
“I remember, I remember
The house where I was born;
The little window where the sun came,
Peeping in at morn.”
The Memory of My Mother: My mother was the be-all and end-all through thick and thin and in the weal and woe of my life. Her picture is still hanging on the wall before my reading table. It reminds me of her sweet smiles,
“Those lips are thins -thins own sweet smiles I see; the same that oft in childhood solaced me.”
Play Ground: My playground was on the bank of a small river flowing by our house. We, the boys of our locality, gathered there every afternoon to play and rang the air and the sky with great shouts of joy.
My First Lesson: My first lesson of learning began at home with a local Moulovi, Md. Sahid. We, a few boys and girls, sat on a mat and repeated our lessons in a singing voice. We moved our bodies forward and backward.
Summer’s Attraction: We roamed about up and down in the whole village and plucked various summer fruits and ate them heartily. The sweet melody of a song sung by a shepherd on his flute at noon still hunts my mind.
“the music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more.”
Winter Morning: I used to get up very early in the morning and go out for plucking flowers through the shivering cold of the morning. Mother prepared different kinds of cakes and food with date juice. We ate them with great pleasure and enjoyed basking in the morning sun.
Fair and Village Market: These two places were also a great source of joy and attraction for me. I would go to these places, roam about, and enjoy their sights, sounds, and variety very much. There I would buy things of my choice with my little funds for myself and for my younger.
Value of Childhood: Human life is divided into four periods: childhood, youth, middle age, and old age. Childhood is the best and sweetest of all these periods. A man can enjoy the real freedom of life in his childhood. He can taste the pleasures of life with a free mind. He can lead a pure, simple, and carefree life. He remains free from the pangs of a day-to-day hard life. This is why this age is called the golden period of life. On the contrary, a grown-up becomes burdened with the boundless duties and responsibilities of life. The stern reality of life, always keeps him occupied with hundreds and thousands of worries and anxieties. This is why he feels compelled to look back and recollect the sweet memories of his childhood. These recollections go a long way towards helping him to forget the monotony and boredom of his routine-bound life. This is why we all wish we could go back to those charming days again.
Conclusion: All these memories act as a great source of bliss in solitude and flash before my mind’s eye over and over again, giving me immense joy and pleasure. I feel that I was really happy in my childhood life. Let me quote the words of the poet:
“Backward, turn backward, time in your flight:
Make me a child again just tonight. “
My Favourite Hobby
A hobby can be almost anything a person like to do in his spare time. Because the “Idle Mind is Devil’s workshop” therefore those who have developed a hobby never need to worry about what to do with their newly founded leisure hours.

The Game I Like Most
Among the myriad of games that captivate our attention, there is one that holds a special place in my heart—the game of chess. With its rich history and intricate gameplay, chess is a timeless pursuit that combines strategic thinking, mental acuity, and a dash of creativity.
Chess is a game of two minds locked in a battle of wits and strategy. It requires foresight, planning, and the ability to anticipate the moves of your opponent. Each piece on the board has its unique strengths and weaknesses, and understanding their interplay is essential to achieving victory. The game challenges players to think several moves ahead, considering various possibilities and potential outcomes. It hones analytical skills, decision-making abilities, and the art of weighing risks and rewards.
What truly fascinates me about chess is its infinite complexity. Despite having only 64 squares and 32 pieces, the number of possible game positions is staggering—estimated to be more than the number of atoms in the observable universe. This complexity ensures that no two games are alike, providing an endless well of opportunities for exploration and growth.
